Burningman

I can't believe that I am missing Burning Man right now. For those of you who don't know what it is, it is an amazing celebration of life, art, humanity, love, friendship, altered states, strangers, fire, dance, music, out of body experiences, shock, happiness, sadness and survival out in the Black Rock Desert near Reno, Nevada. My friends have been going for the last 8 years and I have been there only twice. I wish I was there now. But I look forward to hearing everyone's stories when I return to PDX in November. :)

Hi, I'm originally from Bombay but been living in LA/NYC/San Francisco.

Just my $0.02:

With ticket prices at $250+ this year, there's been a lot of criticism about how Burning Man has become just another 'elitist white hipster party' for 'kids with no jobs living off their parents' bank accounts' (and that's how my friends who have been there a few times describe it...

I'm sure that your friends understand what it's really about, since they have been going there for the past 8 years, but I think a lot of people just think it's a large dance party with a lot of freaks. I say that coz some of my friends who aren't exactly creative or even (counter)culturally savvy or even open minded went there this year - coz they had the money and thought they could get stoned/laid easily. sigh.

I'm skipping that to go the Earthdance Music Festival...
